Microsoft has officially launched the Office Lens application for Android and iPhone. The main feature of this application is that it has ability to convert the device into a portable scanner. It just makes your smartphone the perfect instant scanning device.
The Office Lens was made available for the Windows Phone based devices in the last year. It allows users to scan the documents, business cards, receipts, menus, whiteboards and many more documents. The application can recognize the corners of a document and hence, it will enhance, crop and clean the images by itself making important and relevant data more clear.
The implementation of the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) in the Office Lens app lets it identify printed text and lets users to search for the images using keywords in OneDrive and OneNote. Interestingly, the Office Lens app is capable of converting the scans into Word documents, PowerPoint presentations or PDF files. It also allows to find text in scanned documents which is pretty useful.
Though the Office Lens app has been introduced for Android devices, it is cannot be directly downloaded from the Google Play Store. Below is detailed step on how you can have access to Android App while iOS users can find it directly in App Store.
Microsoft Office Lens for Android
- Go to Office Lens Google+ Community and Join it.
- Go to following link and click on Become a Tester. ( A 404 error will popup if you are not a member or this community)
- Download “Office Lens Preview” in the Google Play Store. (It might take 10 minutes to 2 hours before you can access the page after becoming a tester.)
